When introducing Neocaridina shrimp to a new environment, several factors must be considered, including water parameters, temperature, and acclimation methods. Temperature stability is particularly vital, as sudden fluctuations can induce stress molts, which may prove fatal to the shrimp.
TIP: temperature swings of more than 4 degrees in less than 1 hour will cause a stress molt and can kill the shrimp.
Customer Concerns:
The customer reported issues with shrimp behavior, such as lethargy, lack of movement, and poor appetite, despite seemingly suitable water parameters. Further investigation revealed a temperature discrepancy between the seller's tank (78°F) and the customer's room temperature (70°F), causing a rapid drop in temperature during transport.

Acclimation Process:
The acclimation process plays a pivotal role in the shrimp's adaptation to their new habitat. ADHD Aquatics recommended a faster drip rate or temporarily raising the tank temperature to ease the transition.
GOAL: Temperature changes of less than 4 degrees at a time. (Performing a water change on the intended tank to be closer to seller temp is an option. Over time the tank will cool off slower than the bag the shrimp came in.)
Caution: Most breeders will keep livestock at higher temperatures than are optimal or common in home aquariums, always ask your source for their tank parameters.
Temperature Management:
Maintaining a stable temperature is essential for the well-being of neocaridina shrimp. While the customer's room temperature was lower than ideal, adjustments to the tank temperature were not feasible post-acclimation. It's crucial to strike a balance between optimal breeding conditions and shrimp longevity when setting tank temperatures.
